Well, after my day o’realxin yesterday I was all reved up to start the work week. I got up and headed for the gym. I got in my 15 minute elliptical warm up and a 5 mile run on the treadmill at an 8min average pace. Then it was time to run the half mile back home. I started feeling a little funny and decided just to walk it. I showered and had one of my banana muffins and some cottage cheese with flax for breakfast and surprise, started to feel worse.
Um…well…turns out being married to a vet comes with some hazards you might not expect. A little parasite (giardia) creeped home with him sometime in the last few days and got me. I’m not opposed to most of the things he brings home (more on that in a sec), but this microscopic pest has been reeking havoc all day.
I was forced to take a sick day and caught up on all my dvr-ed shows from when I was gone last week while browsing blogs. I’m not even going to admit what was on there. Hint…daytime show that takes place in a hospital. Explaination…I have watched it for years starting back when I lived at home and my mom watched it.
Luckily I was not all alone. I had my cuddle kitty and he was more than pleased that I was forced to hang at home with him all day.
I did have some work I could do from home and a couple of conference calls, so the day wasn’t a total waste.
In my constant attempt to stay hydrated, I tried a new beverage I bought at Sprouts this weekend. It was called Self Beauty Elixir in Pink Lemonade.
I typically stick to coffee and water, but every now and then I need something with some flavor. What can I say, the packaging got me. The can is just so darn cute! I also love pink lemonade. The verdict…it was pretty good. It was a little too sweet or strongly flavored for me, but like I said I am used to mostly water (aka flavorless). I tend to water down sports drinks and Vitaminwater 10, so I assume if I mixed this with water or poured it over ice to dilute it a bit, it would be a great refreshing drink. I’m not sure about the gimmick, but like I said it was good when it came down to taste.
Ok, so there are some occupational hazard that come with being a vet and the wife of one, but here’s the upside…
I just found this pic on my camera while downloading some others for the blog.
This little guy came into the clinic practically comotose. He had lost his mother and was too little to eat solid food. We put him in a box with a heating pad by the bed and woke up every two hours to feed him formula through a syringe.
By the next morning he had rallied and had figured out how to climb out of his box. I was standing in the kitchen making coffee and he just appeared right there next to my foot. So adorable! He has since been back in to see the hubby and is doing great. Ok, that was my feel good story of the day 🙂
