Ok, so MR. Coffee and I are game-players. We have spent a lot of cold nights in with a good game of Scrabble or Monopoly. Family holidays and vacations often come with a rousing game of Scattergories or Cranium. We aren’t biased towards board games either. Sudoku and crosswords are equally as entertaining if not as interactive. So, we’ve established we like games.
We found a new one much to my delight since basketball reigns supreme in the house this time of year. It gives me something to do while basketball is on in the background. I know, the suspense is killing you 🙂 It’s….
You can play right there on your computer. You just think of a character, real or otherwise and it asks you questions. Then it guesses who you are thinking of. We have spent a good part of the evening trying to stump it.
Now, before you go and get addicted to this mindless game, let me tell ya about dinner. We had a mustard and maple rubbed salmon with roasted asparagus. The salmon is a recipe that the hubby made for me several weeks ago. He’s actually a great cook, though I don’t give him much opportunity to show his skill. I’m a bit of a kitchen hog 🙂
Anyway, the recipe is from Men’s Health. We both love it!
Mustard and Brown Sugar Rubbed Salmon – Serves 4
4 (6oz) salmon fillets – skin removed
2T brown sugar
1t ground pepper
1/4t mustard powder
1t olive oil
Stir together brown sugar, salt, pepper, cumin, and mustard powder. Place the salmon so the side that had skin is down. pat the rub into the salmon. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat.. When hot, place salmon rub-side down and cook 4 min or until glaze has browned. Flip it over and cook until done, about 1 minute.

My piece sorta fell apart. It could’ve been prettier, but tasted yummy! Once I master kitchen confidence sans recipe, I will work on plating. I am a Type A that follow recipes almost to a T. I am learning to venture out on my own, and have had some success. I still get really excited when I make something good that I made up or changed up.
Do you follow recipes or wing it in the kitchen?
