I had a bit of a longer day (relatively) today, but it was not without its perks. I managed to get my noontime yoga in and a quick run to Whole Foods for some essentials that couldn’t wait until the normal weekend grocery run. I usually try to go to either Whole Foods or Sprouts on Thursday or Friday so that I only have to go the main grocery store on the weekend. Helps a little since the masses are out on the weekend.
I have been on a bit of a mango kick lately. I found a different kind at Whole Foods today and decided to give it a try. It was yellow as opposed to the usual green and red and was my something sweet at lunch. I loved it! It was maybe a tad sweeter than a regular mango (but also quite ripe) and seemed easier to peel for some reason.
I also grabbed two apple types that I haven’t had before. I’m usually a Pink Lady or Honeycrisp devotee, but I saw the Lady Alice (didn’t leave the ladies all together) and Enterprise. Haven’t had them, yet, but decided it was time to branch out a bit.
I went down the cereal aisle to replenish my oat stash and came across Alpen muesli. No sugar? All Natural? Check and check. I did scan the ingredients just in case, but it made the grade. Totally Clean! I thought that might add some texture to my normal morning oats, and added the box to my pile of goods. It’s a Barbara’s Bakery brand (makers of the PB Puffins), so how could I go wrong. I stirred a handful into yogurt for my afternoon snack. Rasins, hazelnuts, and almonds among several grain varieties perked up my creamy greek nicely.
And one final review while we’re on the subject. I have officially switched my loyalties from rosted red pepper hummus to Cedar’s spinach artichoke hommus. I bought it a few weeks back and have added it to everything from egg whites to the usual raw veggies and experimented with it in several recipes. Winner winner chicken dinner! No, seriously, it’s great on chicken 🙂 Ok, I’m a dork but I love this stuff.
Phew! Enough reviews. Onto the best treat of the day. I came home to a new garden in my backyard. My husband’s day off from work produced a finished walkway (started last Thursday) and a garden. A GARDEN!
I can’t wait to go pick out some yummy veggies and herbs to grow. I have a bit of a black thumb, but luckily for me, Jensen’s is as green as they come. So, I’m already making my list and so far, this is what I want…
- bell peppers of assorted colors
Homegrown tomatoes and cucumbers are my faves and those are the herbs I use the most. Now let’s hope our little fur family can stay out of it. Dogs don’t eat veggies, right?
Any other suggestions on goodies to grow?
