I just finished up my morning cardio and am enjoying a little java with some protein pancakes. I’m so ready for Friday to commence!
My morning was made by a little package that arrived yesterday.
Want to know what’s in it?
That java mentioned above arrived on my doorstep yesterday and I got to have my first taste this morning. I ordered two types of coffee from Cafe Brit, which is owned by the family of Naomi in Costa Rica. I read about it on her blog and just had to try it. I got the Costa Rica Dark Roast and the Valle Sagrado from Peru. I started with the Valle Sagrado this morning and just opening the bag made me happy. It smelled so good and tasted even better! I’m a happy customer 🙂
The other reason I’m so excited is one of my besties, Kelly, told me the other day she was interested in trying out yoga. YAY! I love having workout buddies and I think she will really like it.
My husband is happy, too, because I dragged him to it a couple of times and it was definitely not his thing. Props to him, though, for trying something just because he knows I love it and wanted to show interest. Such a good hubby! Just had to brag for a sec 🙂
Anyway, back to the present. Kel is planning to join me today for the Fire class which is heated to 98.6 degrees and 60% humidity. Fun Fun!
I thought now is as good of a time as ever to tout the benefits of one of my favorite hobbies.
1. the heavy sweating helps flush toxins from the body. Your skin is one of the biggest waste disposal systems. Hot yoga taps into your skin’s ability to convert toxins from fats into simpler and water-soluble compounds, excreted in the form of sweat.
2. the heat allows you to go a little more deeply and safely into postures
3. the heat elevates heart rate allowing a more intense session and great cardiovascular workout
4. the heat helps the body relax and improves breathing and the humidity helps keep the throat moist.
Ok, so I was not a believer before I tried it. I wasn’t sure about the whole detox thing, but I have tried a lot of different exercises (pilates, kickboxing, Body Pump, etc) so I don’t discriminate. I thought I’d give it a try. Over a year later and I’m hooked! I go 5-6 days a week, and honestly feel cleaner inside and out when I attend regularly. Yoga in general is a great form of exercise and the addition of the heat makes it addictive for someone like me who gets a natural high from intense exercise. Go endorphins!
I’ve always been a runner and will always be a runner, but I can also now call myself a yogi. “Hey Booboo” (sorry, couldn’t resist 🙂 )
Bonus: It helps the running too. HELLOOOO hip flexors! Not sure I knew what to do to stretch those suckers out pre-yoga and it’s amazing how my pace and comfort while running has improved. I feel this will be a part of my life in one form or another for the duration and I’m stoked to share it with a friend!
One more note: I just heard that in NYC there is such thing as NUDE yoga. Nope, that’s not a typo and no it isn’t an acronym. It is actual, clothes-off, here-I-am-world, naked yoga. I said I will try anything, but I’m drawing the line here. I love how it says “You must have your own mat for this class.” Hahahahaha! 🙂 Well, at least they are in tune with proper hygiene!
