Anyone recognize where the title of this post came from? Yep, that’s “Dude, Where’s My Car.” I’m a little embarrassed, but hey it fits for the following subject.
The guy orders what he wants at a drive-thru and the lady says “and den”, so he orders something more. “And den”. Ok, he throws on one more item. “And den”. He loses it “NO, and den”
I have a bone to pick with fast food places. There are oh so many reasons to dislike fast food and the greasy, calorie-laden, nutritionless items that make up most of their menus. Not my particular problem today, though.
The issue today is beyond the obvious nutritional void and gluttinous feeling that fast food noshes leave behind. I hate when people try to force food on me! To be fair, it’s not just fast food joints (can we say holiday cookies and candies), but they will provide the examples for today.
I have been through the KFC window several times and just want a grilled chicken breast (which is quite good, by the way). They always say “Just the chicken breast?” Yep. “It’ll cost less if you get two sides and a drink.” Nope. “Are you sure?” YES!
Starbucks offers me a drink with exorbitant amounts of sugary syrups and whip cream before I even say anything and when I get a chance to order my grande non-fat latte, they always offer me some sort of sugary muffin or treat. I just want my coffee!
So, Jensen had a hard days work in the yard last Thursday. He was hot and sweaty and wanted a refreshing drink and some lunch. What better than a Sonic cherry limeade to cool things down? I don’t drink soda much, but even I have to agree it is the best drink when you are really hot and thirsty.
So, he orders a burger and a cherry limeade. What happens next? They ask him if he wants fries or tots. He wants just the burger and limeade. Like he said. But the fries or tots are free. He doesn’t want them. But they don’t cost anything. He knows what free is, but doesn’t want to eat them. The car hop skates out (do they still wear skates?) with his limeade and burger, and….TOTS! What the f***?
“NO, and den!”
Just give me what I order. I don’t want it supersized and I don’t want to add to my order and believe me I would have told you if I did. We wonder why people have an issue with weight in this country.
Ok, I’m stepping off the soapbox now.
For the sake of being fair and balanced, I do like that a lot of fast food places have some healthier choices now (relatively) and I think that eating something you may love from a quickie joint is ok on occasion. I am also not opposed to a burger or fries. I actually quite like them. I just prefer a good quality one from an actualy restaurant or at home.
