Friday nights around here are often like any other week night since Jensen works a lot of Saturday mornings. My rockin Friday night consisted of cleaning out the pantry and reorganizing. Don’t be jealous. 🙂 Oh well, it provided some food for the hungry and left my pantry cleaner and easier to find my way around.
There’s something settling about having things organized. Ok, so I’m a bit OCD and very Type A. I’ll admit it 🙂 Except my office which is a pig sty, but that’s for another day.
The fruit in the bowl in the back is staying. It just lives on that table 🙂
So Friday night’s fun turned into a Saturday errand. I had to take that food somewhere at some point today and I did that this afternoon. I went on the Capital Area Food Bank website yesterday to find out where they were located and found out Randalls grocery also accepts donations on the food bank’s behalf . There is a Randalls a couple of miles away and the food bank itself is way past downtown (a good half hour away).
I like that we now have things in the house that we actually eat and I tried to leave little in the way of overly-processed junk. There are still some chips, cereal, and a few boxed side dishes that the hubby likes (though he’s not a big snacker), but for the most part, it’s a clean pantry both in looks and ingredients. It makes it easier to avoid the crap when it’s nowhere to be found.
On that note, I did fall off the wagon tonight. MEXICAN FOOD! Not sure what was in the bean and cheese tostada or the chips and salsa, but pretty sure clean would not describe either. No worries. I made it over two weeks (out of the 21 days) on the Eat Clean Challenge and know now it is much more a lifestyle that makes me feel good and healthy than a temporary challenge anyway. Lifestyles need wiggle room for indulgence once in a while.
Back to the pantry, I found some items like egg noodles that moved here with us almost a year and a half ago and decided if we hadn’t eaten them by now, we probably wouldn’t. Time to move out. What do you do with egg noodles anyway? No matter, they’ve vacated the premises.
Do you have items in your pantry or cabinet that has moved with you from one place to another or been there for over a year?
