Lastnight, on a whim, Jensen and I decided to go see the Texas Stars hockey team play. They are an AHL team (equivalent of a baseball minor league team) that is based here in Austin. They are the “farm-team” for the Dallas Stars.
When I was in highschool, one of my really good friends was a huge Stars fan. He would have Stargarita parties complete with dyed day-glo green margaritas (yes, highschool) that left no tongue or tooth untouched. I wonder if our parents ever wondered why we came home with green mouths? Anyway, I actually liked hockey. So when the hubby suggested we go watch the Texas Stars play in a playoff game against the Chicago Wolves lastnight I was all in.
There are several reasons I like hockey. First and foremost, I have discovered about myself that I like a good fight. The girl whose parents always taught she and her brother to always walk away and be the bigger person loves to see a body slam into the wall turn into a brawl. What can I say? It’s entertaining. We saw some doozies lastnight, but thankfully no major blood. I’m not quite that barbaric.
Reason number two I like hockey is the games are short. 3 20 minute periods where the clock is rarely stopped with 2 18 minute breaks after periods 1 and 2. A little over and hour and a half and the business is done. Soccer, another sport I can get behind, is the same way. Short. No dillydallying or stopping the clock to review a play or talk something out every few seconds. Wham Bam, let em play, and movin on.
Reason number three. I am impressed with the fact that these guys with all that heavy padding can stay standing up on the ice much less skating around and running into each other with few face-plants. I have very little experience with ice skating myself, but the few times I went as a kid were brief stints in the rink that ended in a saggy butt from soggy jeans. Less just say I’m less than graceful.
We had a lot of fun with and they play pump you up music the whole time which actually did pump me up. I was really into it. Sadly I didn’t get down enough to end up on the jumbo-tron, but hey I can let the kids have their day I guess. It was awesome to see all the mini-fans breakin it down and having a blast.
This morning we got to sleep in a bit (7:45 folks! 🙂 ) since this is one of Jensen’s Saturday’s off. He has recently started getting 2 Saturdays a month off instead of just one which we were both pretty stoked about (did I just channel a surfer?) On the weekends he works, he has to be up at the same weekday time of 6:45 (my weekday time is 6, so I guess this is a little better), and I’m always up with him. It works out well because I get an early run in, but it was nice to snuggle in bed a little longer this morning.
I just had breakfast and coffee and as soon as that settles I’ll be heading out for my run and then a post-jog stretch and strength session at yoga. Breakfast this morning was a variation of the Going Bananas wrap. I had no banana (well, I did but it was practically liquid 😦 ), so I used an apple instead.
Like an apple turnover for breakfast! What a treat!
Apple Turnover Breakfast Wrap
2T cream cheese
La Tortilla Factory wheat wrap
Slice the apple into really thin slices. Place a skillet over medium heat and spray with cooking spray. Sprinkle the apple slices with cinnamon and add to the pan. Saute until soft and brown. Mix the cream cheese and the honey and spread on the wrap. Place the cooked apple on top and roll up. Re-spray the skillet with cooking spray and place the wrap seam-side down in the pan and cook until brown, flipping to cook the both sides.
Have a great Saturday!
