Lastnight Jensen and I had plans to attend a party at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse. The non-planner husband even RSVPed several weeks ahead of time! We had heard great things about this restaurant and were excited to give it a try. The party was being given by the man who designed the vet clinic Jensen works in and it was to celebrate 25 years in business.
The time on the invitation was 6-?, so we assumed it was a come and go event with drinks and heavy hors d’oeuvre or the like. The invite also said they were having live music and again we surmised celebratory reception-type soiree.
We had general plans to not arrive right on time as is the fashion and thanks to my hair struggles (commending the husband for his patience) it was 6:45 before we got there. The hostess told us to head upstairs to the second floor where they had rented out a room.
As we ascended the stairs, we hear someone singing. It stops and everyone claps. Then a speech begins. Uh-oh, this sounds formal. Since nobody knows me and they might recognize the husband, I switched into stealth-mode and creeped up the last few stairs to peek in. Everyone was gathered around tables at a seated dinner. Oops! There was no way we could just go sauntering in 45 minutes late and disturb everyone while we found seats. Not to mention they might not be together and the only person my husband knew was the designer and his wife (I knew nobody).
We decided to head back downstairs and turn the failed party into a romantic dinner for two. As we sat out on the porch outside in beautiful weather rather than the stuffy upstairs room full of stuffy older people, I made not that I would rather have a date with my husband anyway. Lemons to lemonade 🙂 We do feel bad that we RSVPed and then flaked, but they should have made the invitation more clear. Totally their fault 🙂
Before I began to ready myself for the party that would not be, I received a delivery. The ladies over at Twin Cakes Bakery sent me a few samples to try. Before I get into the contents, I have to first shake my finger a bit at the postman (or UPS, whatever). Hey Mr. Postman, please don’t sit on, kick, run over, punch, or throw my packages. I’m pretty sure they were just chillin in your truck minding their own business and did not warrant any violence against them. Thanks.
Luckily the contents were unscathed and I got to try Kale Hemp flatbread, Pumpkin Seed Kale crackers, and some mystery balls.
After perusing the Twin Cakes website and tasting these little treats discovering a subtle mint flavor, my sleuthing skills revealed their name. Mint Chip Kremes and they were my favorite of the three samples. I loved these! The mint is not overwhelming and the combo of that with coconut and chocolate chips was awesome. Thanks to the twins behind the bakery, Lori and Michelle!
