My mom and I live 4 hours apart. I didn’t want to let Mother’s Day pass by without at least breaking bread with the woman who gave me life, so we met halfway for lunch. I drove about an hour and a half to Waco, TX (it was a little over half-way for her but there in NOTHING between Waco and my little hometown of Tyler) and we had a wonderful mother/daughter brunch at Cafe Cappuccino.
Despite being in Waco, which is not necessarily a happenin city, it was a nice little restaurant with good food and great coffee. How could a place with cappuccino in the name make a bad brew? I had two poached eggs with a homemade biscuit and crispy bacon. I don’t like bacon unless it is REALLY crispy. There is a line from a movie or something that my Dad used to say “it better be crispy or the little bitch won’t eat it.” It sounds bad, but I assure you my dad is a gentle soul. He didn’t ever say it until I was older and I promise it was said in love and I always laugh. I was once a picky eater, so it fits many food situations. This place did it just right. It wasn’t greasy either (probably not pan fried) which I prefer, too.
I was happy to see my mom. I just saw her a few weeks ago on the wine tour and will be with her again next weekend in Dallas, but there is no such thing as too much mama. She truly is my best friend. I feel very lucky that she and I have always had a great relationship with VERY few bumps in the road.
Ok, enough with the sappy Sunday recap. Almost. I have to brag about one more thing first. While I was on the road and back yesterday, my man got his handy on and finished the entryway tile.
WOW! It looks awesome!
We’d like to do the kitchen backsplash and floor with similar slate, but that’s definitely down the road. We wanted to start with this small spot to see how hard it is and it’s HARD! I’m using the word WE a lot but that’s definitely a misrepresentation. I helped some with the tearing out of the original tile, but Jensen did the rest. PROPS TO THE HUBS! I will help more with the kitchen since it is a way bigger job. We may look to luring friends into that job with cold beer and homemade cookies, burgers, etc. you know you wanna 🙂
