I finally tried it. Kombucha. I think I may be the last on earth or at least the health blog world to jump on the train. Well, sort of. I bought a ticket and boarded, but I quickly decided to bail off.
It has taken me so long despite all the raving because it’s freakin expensive. I’ve picked up a bottle at the store several times just to put it right back. There are two outcomes here. I either hate it and have just wasted over 3 bucks on a drink or I love it and have yet another expensive item to add to the grocery list on a regular basis (hello greek yogurt, organics, and natural almond butter).
Well, this time I went through with it. It was just too pretty with all the colors and promises of good health. Into the basket and across the scanner it went.
This afternoon I took the plunge. I grabbed the bottle out of the fridge and noticed some stuff in there. Ok, a few little floaters aren’t going to discourage this health nut. I mean hey, lemonade and fresh squeezed orange juice have pulp, right? I shake the bottle just a little and carefully twist the cap (there is a warning that its naturally effervescent which sounds kinda fun, but I don’t want it all over my kitchen). A bit spills out onto my hands and I immediately smell…vinegar?!
Let’s just preface the rest of this story with the fact that I love vinegar. In fact it is my salad dressing of choice. Not oil and vinegar or vinaigrette. Just vinegar. Balsamic, red wine, raspberry, fig, etc. The list goes on and I’m a fan of them all. That being said I was a little taken aback that my new drink had that tangy smell. Oh well. Time to try. I dive in and take a sip. Holy Sh**! That is horrible. Sorry guys. It was literally money down the drain.
I’ve heard people say they think larabars are way over-rated and I happen to love them. Others say they think that tofu gets too much credit and tastes like nothing. I’m a fan. I have finally found what I think is WAY over-rated. I don’t care how good it is for you, Kombucha in my book is not worth a penny much less the $3 plus. Again, I apologize to the Kombucha loyalists out there. But you can have mine. More for you 🙂
What have you tried that you think is over-rated?
