My name is Hilary and I live in Austin, Texas with the hubby and our dogs, Gus and Tucker, and Ringo the cat. My husband is a veterinarian, so I’m sure they are just the beginning of our future menagerie. I love all four of my boys, though, so the more the merrier!
Not long ago while reading one of the many fitness and health magazines in rotation around here, I ran across one small article (more like a blurb) that resonated with me. It was about appreciating the little things in life. As a self-admitted realist, sometimes the silver lining is missed or ignored all together. This article said to list 3 things that make you happy first thing in the morning to set you up for a positive day. It works!
I’m not a self-help book reader or mantra-sayer, but this tip really worked. As the name of the blog makes fairly clear, the one thing that has seemed to pop up on a daily basis since I began this exercise, is coffee. A good cup o’ joe is all it takes. I would say my favorite part of my day is the perfect cup of coffee after a good run. It is my carrot dangled out to keep me going 🙂
That brings me to another major love in life which is health in general. I grew up in a family where exercise was a family activity and dinners were always homemade and on the healthy side. I went through periods in college where I didn’t exercise, though it didn’t last long, and certainly was not food conscious. Fast forward several years and the opposite was true. I overexercised, counted every calorie into my mouth, and restricted foods I love (peanut butter anyone). I have finally returned to the balance of my childhood and feel happier than ever.
I love to cook healthy recipes, though I see a human need to indulge once in a while. I’ll also try just about any type of exercise, though I’ve found peace in a good run and my center from hot yoga. My other balance….my aboslute favorite thing….my wonderful, laid-back, calm, husband. I’m learning to find the pure joy of just being outside on a sunny day, or the coziness of being curled up inside if it’s rainy or cold. There is a “glass half full” way of looking at life that I’m learning and beginning to thrive on. It all starts with my first cup of coffee.
